Unnecessary ears of the big brother

Talgat IBRAEV, Nomad.su

The human psychology is set up in such way that love is only one step away from hate. If these relations are traditionally hard to see among the inhabitants, than such shifting of accents on political field is always comes with scandal. Like in Kazakhstan, where rumors about destiny of the president’s ex-beloved-son-in-law is discussing behind the scenes for two years, who is living to see his political, and, speaking by his criminal case, vital end of his life in Europe.

2009 07 28 rochikА few years ago the name of this person was thundering on the whole country. Firstly, he was the elder son-in-law of Nursultan Nazarbayev. Secondly, he took over from one high-ranking chair to another with handiness, opened only for most loving relatives. Thirdly, the high-ranking son-in-law, unlike his father-in-law, descended to go down to people – that’s how closely he communicate with big business representatives. So his name has quickly become common.

Finally, according to Internet rumors, of all his thriftiness of a magpie, which filching all more or less valuable to its nest (in this case, to long foreign exile), the main entertainment of Kazakhs appeared – wiretaps of state authorities’ telephone conversations.

By the way, ex-son-in-law himself can’t officially decide, whether he participated to wire tapping publishing in the internet, or none the less not. Even in his notorious lampoon “Godfather-in-law” there are controversial statements are speaking.

For example, in chapter 27 he states, that he isn’t guilty about “major release of discrediting documents in mass-media and Internet”: “How could I record phone conversations of highest Nazarbayev’s toadies, when living in Vienna and travelling through Europe? It’s obviously impossible by even technical means”. And with the word he sets his own version. To say, “It’s the counter- and technical intelligence services officers, who rose as the patriots of their country”. And with the word he reminds the readers, that first wiretaps appeared on the Internet on October 2007, i.e. right after his escape behind the border.

From time to time Aliev proposing the theory, that accusation against him about publishing the wiretaps is staged by Kazakhstani government. Along with that, he published recordings, which until then were unknown to the Internet. And even specified the source of it: “These records (audio files) were given me by Zomart Mazrenov, the head of special information service of KNB (radio-technical intelligence of the Committee for National Security)”. This phrase is repeated over the 600 pages of the book: “I received documents – copies of audio files with recorded telephone conversations from General Zomart Mazrenov“, “he gave me the materials over the border, so they wouldn’t gone along with him”…

As the saying is, let nothing be said of the dead but what is good – General Mazrenov died in 2008 in the KNB trial center in Astana. That is just the point – phone records, which flooded the Internet, were in hands of Aliev.

Another nuance, which witnessing his copartnership to its appearing: until now everything that appeared is date not later than the spring of 2007, i.e. the period of Aliev’s stay in office.

Aliev admitting in his book, that Baurkhan Mukhamedzanov, who was then the minister for internal affairs and held the investigation of Nurbank managers disappearance, become responsible for the leak of wiretaps, and telling about total system of wiretapping on political Olympia. His tale reminds of memoirs of Eugenia Zolotukhina, former chief librarian of Marxism-Leninism library, who managed to get to Stalin’s flat ten years after his death (all these years the flat was sealed): “Cut wires sticking up everywhere – the ripped out alarm. There was huge alarm in Stalin’s flat. The guards heard his every rustle. They knew when he got from one room to another” (the quote from L.Vassilieva’s book “Kremlin wives”).

It is obvious that Aliev, as the former vice-chairman of KNB, and more of that, as the vice-chairman of wiretapping service, couldn’t manage to know nothing about wiretaps, which was surrounding him and his father-in-law.

More of that, according to the very first chapter of “Godfather-in-law” book, the son-in-law had used it himself: carefully recorded and kept his own conversations with former father-in-law. Apparently, following by exactly these reasons, he diplomatically doesn’t reminding, how the stenograph of those conversations managed to get into his hands.

And finally, the last argument in favour of Aliev’s copartnership to this information: for two years since start of criminal case implementation and his escape to the Austria, non phone talk recordings, which could discredit Aliev, never appeared on the Internet. So, if to accept “Austrian” arguments at face-value, that all wiretaps is attempt to compromise him by Kazakhstani secret services, this cannot but suspicious: indeed the “sweetheart” didn’t say anything conspiratory by phone over the years of his state service? It’s hardly believable.

Over the last years Kazakhstan is filling the bill of Western newspapers. And interest to the country is stir up by the man, who recently was chosen to create its positive image in the eyes of the readers (and politicians) all over the world.

But even his present attempts to attract attention to internal cookery of Kazakhstan (to his own great role of “insulted and humiliated”, to be precise) many people is regarding as positive to our country. Nevertheless, criticizing present regime by all means (only a short time ago he stood for proclamation of Kazakhstan as monarchy, where his wife and son would success his “throne”), Aliev gave the world to understand, that Kazakhstan appears to start curing from its main problem – the corruption. For the president, who declared a war against it, didn’t spare the beloved husband of his beloved daughter.
