Write the story of Rakhat Aliev’s betrayal

Scandal about «Godfather-in-law», the book which was written and published by Rakhat Aliev, former president's son-in-law is firing up in Kazakhstan. Our conversation today is not about the book itself, but about the reaction on it from Kazakhstani officials.

Prosecution General's Office has started the criminal case proceedings on the fact of the book «Godfather-in-law» publication, written by former Kazakhstani president's son-in-law Rakhat Aliev. Those proceedings are started on «illegal privacy violation of: the correspondence, phone talks, postal, telegraphic or other messages, and committed by a person with the usage of his official position or specific technical means, which are intended for confidential gathering of information».

Along with this, editors of Kazakhstani newspapers «Respublica» and «Vzglayd» were notified by Prosecutor General's Office on the criminal responsibility for publications of the book extracts. Soon after that came the official statement that the book information is considered as the National Security Information. Kazakhstani Prosecutor General Representative, Saparbek Nurpeisov, said those citizens of Kazakhstan Republic who will distribute or read the book «Godfather-in-law» would be put on criminal responsibility as the crime accomplices. He stated also the book contains governmental secrets which are closed without rights of access.

The reaction on the book publication presents the weak position of the state and not strong.
In the first place, if Rakhat Aliev has disclosed the secret governmental information indeed, for example, the list of Kazakhstani National Security Committee (KNSC) residents in Europe within their names pseudonyms, diplomatic and military ranks, and then it should be acknowledged that large-scale security information leak was happened. The case is happened even with the most large and experienced intelligence services. In 1971 Oleg Lyalin, KGB agent, disclosed to Britons the list of KGB residents in London. In 1986 Dmitriy Polyakov, Main intelligence services (MIS) officer, uncovered no less than 1500 names of KGB and IS officers, 150 names of foreign agents and 19 names of illegal agents. In 1994 Aldrich Ames, the CIA agent, was acknowledged as the spy which activity led to death of 9 American agents in USSR and to the secrets disclosure of intelligence technique used by CIA.

Similar cases were happened with almost any intelligence service more or less known in the world. The same failure has become with the betrayal of Rakhat Aliev in KNSC. The damage is large but it is not the reason for hysterics.
In the second place, if governmental secrets are disclosed and published in the book they are not secrets anymore and there is no need to make an absurdum theatre within the prohibition of reading the book without right to access to it. Moreover, half a year won't pass to create an electronic version of the book and to put it in the Internet, so it will become available for everyone who wishes to read, especially due to great promotion made by the agiotage surrounding it.

In the third place, many officials in Kazakhstan have not learned yet that one word could be effectively answered only by other word. All attempts to threat within the criminal cases and any other force methods of «punishment» is the position of weak and silly party which is nothing to say in response on made accusations and blames.

Rakhat Aliev can be beaten enough easily and simply without applying to criminal cases, mass media persecution and attempts to prohibit the book. All that is needed to make — is to give an appropriate answer on Rakhat Aliev's book, to call the best writers, providing them with all documentation and information concerning the issue and to publish a retaliatory book under the name similar to «Rakhat Aliev — the story of betrayal». So far as he recognized himself as the enemy and betrayer of Kazakhstan and committed the outright crimes then he must be treated without any ceremony. A book must contain the detailed information on the Rakhat Aliev's evolution, beginning from being close-related and trusted person of the Kazakhstani president, to the wicked criminal and betrayer. A book must show his attitude to freedom and human rights, when he has political power, and the examples of his «fairness» when he was influential.

Sometimes, the most mighty and destructive discrediting evidence is the story of somebody's life written similarly to true. So Rakhat Aliev is right in the category of such people. If such a book will appear, then Rakhat Aliev's halo will turn into nothing.
